Dr. Dustin Mark was honored with the 2025 Morris F. Collen, MD Research Award for his groundbreaking work analyzing diagnostic strategies in patients with sudden, severe headaches. His CREST Network study—published in JAMA Network Open—reviewed more than 198,000 emergency department visits across 21 Kaiser Permanente Northern California sites from 2015 to 2021, showing that CT angiograms are increasingly used as a secondary test in place of lumbar punctures without compromising patient safety, while also improving detection of unruptured brain aneurysms.
